We're seeking someone who enjoys tackling design systems challenges that span various platforms and workflows. As part of this role, you'll collaborate with a team of designers, product managers, and engineers to advance our design system. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire design process, starting from identifying the most relevant problems to validating prototypes with users. You'll pay close attention to refining micro interactions and analyzing performance to propose future improvements. Ultimately, the experiences you shape will enable users to build exceptional and pioneering content on a fast and powerful platform.

What you’ll do

As a key member of the Foundations design team, your work and voice have a significant impact on scaling the Express product for multiple surfaces, ensuring consistency and performance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Express designers to optimize the design system in Figma, including developing standard processes for building and using componentized patterns.

• Partner with pillar PM, Engineering and Design leads (Editor Framework, Home, Files & Brands, Extensibility, etc) to define and prioritize pattern creation and updates.

• Mentor feature teams in contributing components and patterns, promoting standards, and incorporating feedback into design system, encouraging a collaborative and inclusive design culture.

• Regularly review the design system to find opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with accessibility standards.

• Work closely with the Design System engineering team to understand requirements and bridge the gap between design and engineering.

• Apply extensive knowledge of platform standards (iOS, iPadOS, Android, macOS, Windows, etc.) to optimize Express's design system, resulting in intuitive, efficient, and rewarding user experiences.

• Partner with the Spectrum team make sure the Express design system and Spectrum's system are coherent and coordinated seamlessly.

• Promote accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.

• Mentor and guide other designers in the use of the design system, promoting a culture of design excellence.

What you need to succeed

• Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and user-centered design.

• Ability to think strategically and solve complex design challenges.

• Experience with design systems and strong system-level thinking.

• Experience and knowledge of current accessibility standards and guidelines.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• 5+ years track record of relevant design experience.

• College degree or equivalent practical experience in design with an emphasis on graphic design, HCI, or related design field.
