What we do
Kentik's Emerging Technologies Engineering group provides engineering support to early stage projects within Kentik. The key functions of this team are rapid prototyping and software architecture.
Rapid Prototyping
Rapid prototyping can be required in many different circumstances, e.g. time-sensitive customer feature requests, business development integrations, or product concepts that require heavy exploratory engineering. The mission of Emerging Technologies is to deliver proof-of-concept grade software that can be used to engage with customers and partners, validate ideas, and serve as building blocks for final production-ready features.
Software Architecture
In addition to proof of concept stage projects, many software projects within Kentik engineering involve designing new or maturing legacy systems and services to meet customer needs. The Emerging Technologies team sponsors a regular architecture review cadence that aligns upcoming projects to current and future architecture, and assists with coordination of related efforts across teams.
Engineering at Kentik
We have built a team of world-class engineers, network experts, and technology thought leaders in a remote-friendly culture from day one. While prior experience in a remote environment is not required, we highly value strong collaboration and communication skills, and a high level of independence and autonomy.
What you'll do
As a manager on the Emerging Technologies team, you will help prioritize and execute on rapid prototypes across our platform and product suite. Examples of projects include:
- Building the Kentik Digital Network Engineer: Agentic AI
- Application of AI/ML techniques to Kentik telemetry
- Network topology tracking and analysis
- Capabilities in support of our core product roadmap
- Partnership / Business development prototypes
You will work closely with all teams across engineering and product management on planning, design, and other coordinating activities.
What you'll bring

- Exposure to AI and/or ML technologies with practical application
- Deep understanding of web application architecture
- Experience working with product management on project execution

Nice to haves:
- Networking knowledge, including protocols such as SNMP, Netflow, or BGP, and tools such as ping, traceroute, or DNS
- Understanding of high-scale telemetry ingest and query patterns
- Distributed systems engineering and architecture experience
Our tech stack
- Our core data engine and platform are primarily written in Go
- We use Node.js + Express for application serving, and React as our primary UI framework
- We also use some JS and Python for tooling/scripting
- In addition to our own database, we use Postgres, Kafka, Mysql, and Redis
- Internal and public APIs expose both rest/json and gRPC endpoints
- Haproxy, Envoy for API traffic routing and balancing
- Github for source control, PRs, issues
- Jenkins for automated builds

The compensation range for this position is: $221,000 - $299,000. This range reflects the low and high end of the U.S. compensation range Kentik reasonably and generally expects to pay the hired candidate in this role. The actual compensation offered may be lower or higher than the stated range depending on various factors, including but not limited to:
- Experience with the skill sets required for success
- Demonstrated competencies and potential
- A geographic market-based approach
