Job Description:
Basic Purpose:

  • It is required that candidates have a professional license (PE), and they should list PE license number and state of registration on their resume.
  • Provides comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, and ensures the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
  • Provides leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs. (10%).
  • Serves as an expert to provide engineering solutions to engineering problems. (10%)
  • Provides accurate engineering designs and products. Directs an engineering team for engineering and drawing productions. (20%).
  • Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified. (15%)
  • Provides coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments. (10%).
  • Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (5%)
  • Monitors project expenditures, and practices cost control such that project commitments are met. (5%)
  • Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (5%)
  • Assists and guides other departments in the solution of non-standard or complex substation design problems. (5%)
  • Assigns and reviews work of other department staff. (15%)
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Essential Education, Skills, and Environment:
Education and Work Experience
:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in engineering and 15 years’ industry experience as a practicing engineer and performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.


Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in substation/control engineering principals and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
  • Economic analysis methods, budgeting procedures, and company policies, rules and regulations.
  • Utility engineering practices and procedures, construction methods and material specifications.


Demonstrated skill such as:
 

  • Directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work of a staff of engineers, technicians, and designers.
  • Ability to prove judgment and solves unusual problems with a high level of independent decision-making.


Equipment and Applications:
 

  • PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
