Our Software Development team architects, develops, tests and maintains the Telesat Lightspeed System Model application, a state-of-the-art engineering software tool running on high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for the modeling of resource allocation and end-to-end communication system performance analysis of the Telesat Lightspeed satellite constellation.


As a Software Development Specialist, the selected candidate, as a senior resource on the team, will participate actively in the software development, productization and maintenance of the Telesat Lightspeed System Model, a state-of-the-art engineering tool running on high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for the modeling of resource allocation and end-to-end communication system performance analysis of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in the software development of the System Model suite, to improve its fitness as an operational production engine for business applications running on an HPC infrastructure, within varied software development environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system engineers, product owner, software architect, and members of the test team, to gather requirements and ensure the successful delivery of software solutions.
  • Work closely with the software architect to help provide technical leadership within the team, ensuring high quality results and that best practices are followed.
  • Provide innovative solutions to complex technical problems, making recommendations on technology to use as well as potential software design and architecture.
  • Participate in all aspects of software development including requirements analysis, design, implementation, review, testing and maintenance.
  • Create technical documentation stakeholders within as well as outside of the team.

Education and Experience Required

  • 10+ years professional experience.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced coding skills.
  • Experience in the following technologies: C/C++, Golang, SQL.
  • Experience in the following technologies: gRPC, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Azure Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker.
  • Experience within an Agile development.
  • Experience in satellite and/or communications systems is an asset, but not mandatory.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners.
  • Experience with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.
  • Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs and resources.
  • An aptitude for and interest in complex technology.
  • Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
