Job Purpose
The Site Automation Specialist provides front line support for controls issues including PLC issues, equipment faults and software issues. The position will also be required to support continuous improvement initiatives and carry out reactive and planned maintenance activities on material handling equipment (MHE) including bots, tote and product handling equipment and associated conveyor networks. This role requires shift flexibility but is days based. This role is required to work in Fresh logistics center and the working environment includes chill, neutral and frozen working environment.
You will become the expert for both bot and peripherals from a mechanical / electrical / control standpoint. You should act and solve issues on the floor which the shift team cannot handle as well as you lead continuous improvement on those systems by collaborating with the client operations team and the global central technical teams. You will also have responsibilities to provide technical training and coaching to the organization, including Lead Engineering Operations Manager, Engineering Team Managers, Engineering Technicians and Senior Engineering Technicians in your area of expertise.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Be a technical expert for bots and peripherals from an electrical, mechanical and control standpoint.
- Solve high-level or complex problems on the floor.
- Lead Continuous Improvement Work / Change Try Outs (CTOs) on the floor.
- Provide the technical training and coaching to the organization.
- Collaborate with the client operations team to help the improvement of their operations.
- Lead deploying technical work packs in the site.
- Carry out planned maintenance across the site in an accurate, timely and safe manner ensuring maintenance procedures are followed
- Update records of work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores and training given
- Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and internal departments in finding ways to improve process and increase machine reliability and performance
- Respond to and diagnose equipment breakdowns, resolving issues and action repairs
- Analyse data to find solutions to improve MHE performance, providing reports where necessary
- Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard
- Work to and follow Health and Safety policies including those set by Ocado, To seek guidance from the HS&E team where there is uncertainty.
- This role involves working at height using a variety of access equipment, so technicians need to be comfortable working at heights
- This role involves working in an ambient, frozen (-21C) and chilled environment (2 to 4C)
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Siemens PLC experience preferred
- Minimum experience equivalent to a technical college diploma
- Strong electrical experience preferable within a FMCG environment.
- Knowledge / experience of working with controls, analysing faults and providing solutions.
- Experience of both reactive and preventative maintenance
- Good technical ability relating to automation hardware
- Strong organisation and communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team of varying levels of technical experience.
