The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Senior Product Design Verification Engineer is responsible to plan and execute design verification engineering projects and reliability activities to support the development of safe and reliable medical devices. Develop and validate test methods, write protocols based on defined requirements, and provide clear and concise test reports. Perform data analysis activities including tolerance intervals, Ppk, data reduction, and gage repeatability and reproducibility. Interact collaboratively with a wide range of disciplines to create innovative products in the challenging and rewarding medical device industry. 

As a Senior Product Design Verification Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.

Here, you will make an impact by: 

  • Partnering with the Design Team and Quality to identify/ explore areas of reliability, risk, and sampling.
  • Generate design verification project plans to test design requirements.
  • Provide the reliability function for design verification by acting as reliability engineering lead on assigned projects with accountability to execute assigned activities.
  • Apply design for reliability (DFR) concepts (DFMEA, HALT, FTA, etc.) during the product development process to ensure that designs are intrinsically reliable.
  • Develop test strategies to determine the best means of providing design verification and reliability (e.g. success testing, test to failure, alarm conditions, etc.).
  • Use engineering tools such as design of experiments, gage repeatability and reproducibility, fabrication of unique test fixtures, and test automation to develop test methods.
  • Validate test methods using equipment qualification, software validation, and measurement analysis. Including design and fabrication of specialty test fixtures.
  • Develop and qualify new test protocols, ensuring that test objectives are effectively incorporated.
  • Create custom control, user interface, and data collections programs using LabView.
  • Coordinate assigned projects resources (technical and equipment) with the objective of assuring data integrity and maximizing test throughput efficiency.
  • Work with lab technicians to assemble, test, and troubleshoot mechanical, electronic, electromechanical, and pneumatic test set-ups and data acquisition system.
  • Analyze test data for conformance to pre-determined acceptance criteria and prepare formal reports and results summaries.
  • Assist engineering and quality teams in failure investigations/ root cause analysis for problems identified during lab testing and field issues.
  • Use technical writing methodology in all engineering documents (e.g. plans, protocols, investigations, reports) and follow templates provided.
  • Assist engineers in the compilation and analysis of basic reliability data from field studies.

Required Skills and Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or other) AND four (4) years of engineering experience.

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED AND four (4) years of engineering experience.

AND

In addition to the above requirements, the following are also required:

  • Three years of engineering experience in medical device or other regulated industry using reliability testing or design.
  • Engineering project management experience.
  • Proven analytical skills that contribute to the development of solutions to complex and diverse issues
  • Experience in technical writing such as engineering plans, test methods, protocols and reports.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency with MS Office business software – Word, Excel, Project
  • Knowledgeable of statistical analysis and software, preferably MiniTab.
  • Knowledge of regulated design environments – specifically medical device development, FDA, or ISO registered experience.
  • Demonstrate ability to condense complex requirements into specific and measurable test objectives for purpose of requirements based testing.
  • Experience creating and optimizing engineering processes or lab processes.
  • Knowledge of control systems and process simulation (LabView preferred).
  • Experience with solid modeling and engineering drawing creation (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, Engineering Sciences, or other engineering.
  • Experience in any of the following test categories: thermal, pressure flow systems, adhesives, plastic materials, electrical safety (EG/ UL/IEC standards particularly IEC 60601).
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics. Ability to troubleshoot, improvise, and work from schematics.

Work Location: Hybrid - Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to San Antonio, TX at least [2] days per week)

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $119,076 - $145,537, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
