As a Senior Hardware Test Engineer, you will develop and deliver the test infrastructure to ensure our Robotics Systems are assembled properly, managing the design, deployment and continuous improvement of test equipment, software, and procedures for supplier production testing and in-house assembly level testing. Every day, you will interact with the product design, manufacturing, program management, suppliers, and quality engineering teams to ensure the appropriate test strategy and test coverage is developed to ensure we build and deliver quality products. To thrive in this role, you must be able to architect and drive the detailed design of test equipment and associated software, and you must be capable of understanding complex electromechanical systems and assemblies at a deep systems engineering level.
Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications, logistics, and warehouses.
Day to day activities:
-
Design, construct and document testing strategies, methods, and equipment to enable the manufacturing, supply chain & service teams to verify completeness and quality at appropriate stages of the assembly process.
-
Collaborate with hardware and software design teams to develop proper software testing strategies for electromechanical assemblies and complete robotic systems
-
Collaborate with hardware design groups to improve the “design for test” and “design for manufacturability” features of our products
-
Partner with the supply chain management team to identify flow-down requirements of testing to our supply chain partners
-
Develop data acquisition strategies and infrastructure to validate manufacturing process control and ensure product traceability.
-
Train both internal and external manufacturing/service teams in the use and support of production test equipment, test programs, and debug processes
Desired skills:
-
BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, and 8+ years of relevant experience
-
Experience in selecting COTS or designing custom testing hardware based on engineering/manufacturing test requirements
-
Previous experience developing test software using Python with an object-oriented focus
-
Able to read electrical schematics and apply sound electrical/electronics fundamental knowledge to analyze designs. Ideally, with the ability to design and lay out test interface PCBAs.
-
Comfortable with analog and digital test and debug techniques for medium to high complexity systems
-
Comfortable interpreting and/or writing C++ code
Nice to have:
-
Experience with test automation
-
Familiarity with position encoder and force sensor technology
-
Familiarity with low-level embedded firmware (C)
-
Experience working with robots and/or robotic systems.
-
Experience with DFMEA and HALT
Travel:
-
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time including international
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
