How will this role have an impact?

The Staff Data Scientist will be responsible for mining, analysing, and designing methodologies for data exploration, methodically running statistical experiments, and developing state-of-the-art machine learning models to drive business value. This is a critical role, combining advanced technical expertise with strategic thinking coupled with an ability to lead team members, to collaborate effectively across departments and to affect organisational strategy with respect to data science and machine learning. 

This role reports directly to the Director of Data Science & is open to hybrid candidates who can be in the office in Galway two days a week.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, or another quantitative field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional data scientist experience (8+ years with advanced degree) with a proven track record of success in delivering high-impact data science solutions.
  • Solid understanding of high-level product architecture and data flow patterns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: Ability to tell a clear, concise, actionable story with data to folks across various levels and departments of the company.
  • Significant experience leading and mentoring junior colleagues and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Extensive track record in leading and delivering projects from start to finish.
  • Considerable experience with statistical analysis, hypothesis testing and data visualisation.
  • Expert proficiency with Python & SQL programming languages.
  • Extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying supervised and unsupervised machine learning models, ensemble models, deep learning models and time series forecasting models. Excellent understanding of underlying algorithms.
  • Significant experience in designing, developing, and deploying Generative AI and/or NLP-based solutions using LLMs is desirable.
  • Track record of building cloud native analytical solutions, either on H20, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience working with sensitive healthcare data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mine and analyse data, applying statistical methods to identify critical insights for core and new products.
  • Proactively develop new metrics and studies to quantify the value of different aspects of product personalization and set up ongoing reports to measure their performance continually.
  • Research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis
  • Translate analytic insights into concrete, actionable recommendations for business or product improvement.
  • Build accurate and impactful predictive machine learning models to provide business value, inform strategies and improve customer experience.
  • Give up-to-date recommendations based on model performance.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional team leaders and customers throughout the cycle of innovation and improvement of products. Ensure that necessary data is captured, analytic needs are well-defined, and development timelines are coordinated with analytic needs.
  • Drive efforts to enable team leaders to share your knowledge and insights through clear and concise communication, education, and data visualisation.
  • Lead initiatives that require technical expertise and business awareness
  • Guide junior data scientists and provide technical mentorship
  • Comply with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies, and procedures, including, but not limited to, the Compliance requirements and HIPAA.
