Job Summary:
This position will lead a team of engineers to plan, design, develop and integrate new technology to modernize and improve our manufacturing methods through the implementation of automated processes. This position will partner with research and development to support product design for automation actions. Coordinates efforts of internal and external engineering resources, vendors, integrators to improve existing and introduce automated processes to increase capacity and maximize safety, quality and productivity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):
- Leadership and Management: Lead and mentor a team of automation engineers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Develop and implement strategic plans for the automation engineering department.
- Project Management: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align automation projects with overall business objectives. Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of automation projects. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align automation projects with overall business objectives.
- Technical Expertise: Design and develop advanced automation systems and solutions. Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance automation capabilities. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to automation systems.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation. Implement best practices and standards for automation engineering. Monitor and analyze performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand automation needs and requirements. Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to senior management. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and partners.
SCOPE & IMPACT:
This position is responsible for the specification, design, execution, and tracking of multi-million-dollar automation capital projects required to support and modernize the business. This position will balance the needs of Innovation Center part design, manufacturing plant requirements, technology integration (robotics, advanced controls, E1 interfacing, etc..), and determine the ability to build with our internal Automation team or outsource depending on resource availability, project backlog, and return on investment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or equivalent
- 3-5 years of supervisory / leadership experience.
- Up to 50% travel.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Business or Leadership
- Formal Project Management experience; KT methodology
- Experience with MS Office, MS Project and MS Visio application software, as well as mainframe applications.
- Experience with process improvement tools such as ISO 9000, Lean Manufacturing, TPS, Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5-S, VFM, RCPS, VPM, DFM and FMEA
- SolidWorks 3D and/or AutoCAD experience developing mechanical parts, systems, and facility drawings
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May have up to eight direct reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Often required to sit, repetitive hand motion (such as typing), hear, listen, talk, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, crawl reach overhead push/pull and lift up to 30 pounds. Seldom required to Climb ladders, kneel, squat, crouch, balance or lift up over 50 pounds.
