Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant, Ceded Reinsurance will be responsible for assisting with the accurate Ceded processing, accounting, analysis, and regulatory reporting of our ceded reinsurance portfolio. This position reports to the Manager, Ceded Reinsurance Accounting (North America) and is a hybrid role based in Warren, New Jersey (3 days in office, 2 remote).
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Assist with our monthly and quarterly accounting functions including, cession analysis, manual reinsurance calculations, adjusting journal entries, suspense/cash settlements and application, profit commissions, financial analysis’ and review, for both Ceded Reinsurance and InterCompany reporting and ledger account reconciliations.

Assist with the accurate preparation of reinsurance related Schedules, Notes, and Interrogatories for multiple legal entities.

Ensure ceded reinsurance SOX controls and department processes and procedures are in place and functioning appropriately.

Assist with the internal and external audit process to ensure accuracy of data provided for review.

Work closely with various functional areas (i.e., Underwriting, claims, financial services, financial accounting and reporting, billing & collections, actuarial, statutory and GAAP reporting, treasury, and program accounting) support achievement of business goals and to resolve issues.

Proactively identify and champion process improvements and continually work to improve both the efficiency and effectiveness of Ceded accounting processes. Assist in coordinating strategic accounting projects as they arise.

Assist with monitoring and interpreting emerging accounting guidance and implement new accounting and disclosure standards as appropriate.

Assist with Ceded Reinsurance monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes.

Liaise closely with various departments to ensure proper, accurate and timely reporting of financials.

Responsible for assisting with the quarterly financial reporting, analysis and reconciliation of the Ceded Reinsurance ledgers, in support of STAT and GAAP financial statement preparation.

Drive improvements to Ceded Reinsurance accounting systems and processes.

Maintain positive relationships both internally and externally.

Assist in additional projects as assigned.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:

The successful candidate should have a BS/BA degree in accounting, finance or business.

Minimum 4 years of finance/accounting experience.

Relevant experience in the Accounting Department of a property and casualty insurance or reinsurance company is strongly preferred.

Skillful interpersonal and collaboration abilities required to achieve results within and across diverse organizational units and disciplines.

Strong Analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
-
Strong knowledge of Statutory and GAAP accounting principles and practices
-
Excellent knowledge of ceded reinsurance accounting principles
-
Extensive knowledge of general ledgers and annual statement preparation. Experience working in Oracle is a plus.

Strong knowledge of SQL is strongly preferred.

Good leadership, decision-making, and organization skills

Initiative-taker capable of working both independently and within a team environment.

Strong computer skills including a high degree of proficiency with advanced skills with Access and Excel, formulas including pivot tables, vlookups, sum products, etc. Proficiency in analyzing data sets.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Strong technical accounting, analytical, research and critical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

High degree of flexibility and responsiveness to change in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Strong Interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present ideas and findings to management and senior leadership in a professional manner.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time and be able to multitask in an ever-changing environment.
