Job Description

Research Scientist III or Sr Research Scientist

Location: Austin, TX

Responsibilities

We seek a scientist or engineer to conduct a research program dedicated to the modelling of the phenomena occurring when energetic clusters of atoms and molecules impinge on surfaces pertinent to semiconductor device fabrication.

The successful candidate would:

  • Comprehend the underlying ablative, thermal and reactive ion etching-like and associated sputtering processes involved with cluster-surface interactions.
  • A general understanding of the physics and chemistry of small to large clusters is important as is an understanding of cluster stability.
  • It is expected that the candidate would be conversant in density functional theory (DFT) methods including codes like VASP, Gaussian or their equivalent.
  •  Experience with lower-level theory methods like DFTB, classical force field molecular dynamics (MD) is an asset.
  • The goal is to use computational approaches concurrent with experiment to derive reactive cluster etch yields or deposition probabilities.
  • The program supports a companion experimental program; therefore, the ability to communicate effectively with experimentalists is vitally important.
  • The successful candidate would be part of larger development team and report to senior level development managers/technologists.
  • A graduate (Ph.D.) degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, nuclear engineering, physics or another related major is required.
  •   Evidence of publications in a major refereed scientific AIP or ACS journal is preferred.

Typical Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of related experience; or Master's Degree with 2 years of related experience; or Associate's Degree with 8 years of related experience; or 12 years of experience in lieu of degree. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be legally authorized to work in the US without Sponsorship.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 35 pounds. This position also requires 4 to 6 hours per day at a computer screen/keyboard.
