Business Overview
Novanta’s Corporate and Shared Services teams play an important role in executing the company’s strategic mission and operations. Included in Corporate and Shared Services are the business functions including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Development and Corporate Marketing. The Corporate and Shared Services teams work closely with all Novanta business units to support operating initiatives contributing to the organization’s financial success.
Summary
The Regional Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for setting up and maintenance of accurate cost information, reconciliation of inventory, managing inventory reserves, analyzing variance, maintenance of perpetual inventory system, participating in the month end close and assisting Operations and FP&A with operations and reporting requirement. This position will be responsible for developing/maintaining an effective cost accounting system to reduce costs and improve overall profitability.
This is a hybrid position that will be onsite at least 3 days per week.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure adequate controls and reviews are in place for inventory and gross margin reporting, including: cost of goods sold, scrapped material, purchase price variances, standard cost changes, warranty reserve, excess & obsolete inventory reserve, inventory revaluation, monthly inventory reconciliations, and manufacturing variance analysis.
- Drive and lead all standard cost updates; the annual cost reset, costing of newly released products, and periodic reviews of individual part costs to ensure they are current and accurately reflect manufacturing costs.
- Partner with FP&A on monthly gross margin analysis.
- Assist Operations and FP&A teams with identification and execution of productivity initiatives.
- Monitor the Company’s cycle count program. Ensure counts are being properly recorded and variances are investigated and resolved on a timely basis. Supporting training personnel related to overall cycle count program.
- Assist in the preparation and performance of physical inventories, as required.
- Process month-end journal entries applicable to the position and prepare related month-end reconciliations.
- Drive compliance with Company policy and procedures and SOX internal control standards.
- Support both internal and external audits during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Work on special projects as needed.
General Tasks
- Maintain strict compliance with the quality, environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality, environmental management and/or occupational health and safety officer.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 5+ years of standard cost experience
- Highly motivated self-starter who can work well independently and in a team environment
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, ever-changing environment with the ability to stay focused and quickly achieve closure
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Advanced Excel skills.
- ERP standard costing/inventory experience, strong preference for Oracle and SAP experience

- Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
- Ability to use vision to read computer screen and read printed materials
