Radiological Engineering Intern - Summer 2025

Our Internship Program, Explore, is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field and provides opportunities to learn what it’s like to work in a professional environment and apply what’s learned in class to the real-world challenges we face every day.  

RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Assists the Dosimetry Coordinator with various dosimetry tasks (TLD exchange, bioassay kit delivery to ORNL, worker exposure estimates, etc.) 

• Supports the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Program by assisting the Sr. RADCON Engineer  

• Assists with reviews of Work Packages, procedures, and other documents to ensure compliance with RADCON requirements. 

• Assists with audits and assessments of RADCON program and its implementation. 

• Supports job walkdowns and JHEs, assists with development of RAD documents, and assists with RAD evaluations and investigations. 

• Assists Sr. RADCON Engineer with preparation of estimated dose and shielding analyses. 

• Under supervision of the Sr. RADCON Engineer prepares, reviews, and revises RADCON Procedures and Work Instructions. 

• Assists in the development of survey plans for work activities, and assists with the review of demolition, design and construction documents. 

QUALIFICATIONS  

• EXPERIENCE: None 

• EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 hours towards a nuclear engineering, nuclear & radiological engineering, radiological engineering, or health physics degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2025) 

• SPECIAL SKILLS: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 

• PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS: None
