The New Yorker seeks a producer to join our Puzzles & Games team. This person will be responsible for the daily production—including copy editing, fact checking, scheduling, and project management—of all New Yorker crosswords and games. A strong candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent writing skills and a desire to be trained as a New Yorker copy editor and fact checker. They will be a thorough reader who can quickly catch and fix mistakes of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax, as well as factual errors. Ideally, they will also have a love of crosswords and games. This is a Guild position.
Responsibilities

Copy-editing puzzles, games, and related promotional materials.

Fact checking puzzles, games, and related promotional materials.

Working in content management systems to upload and schedule content.
-
Managing the department’s production calendar.
-
Overseeing and adapting our puzzle-production workflow as the department introduces new offerings (in coordination with editors, constructors, and the product team).

Test solving puzzles and games as needed.

Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager.
Skills and qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Excellent writing skills, strong editorial instincts, and a firm grasp of copy editing.

The ability to critically evaluate a writer’s sources, and to research and identify additional sources as needed.

Exceptional organizational skills, and comfort working on multiple projects with tight deadlines.

Experience keeping a team on schedule.

A collegial attitude and ability to work collaboratively.

Experience working in a content-management system (such as Wordpress).

Proficiency in Google Suite and basic HTML, and comfort with, or willingness to learn, file formats and best practices.

A love of crosswords and games.

An appreciation of The New Yorker’s sensibility and history.

Willingness to work some early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $72,500-$74,500. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
