Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study preferred

Work Experiences:

  • 3+ years of  related product safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, or legal experience required.
  • Experience working directly with third party testing  and government agencies
  • Proven ability to work with outside vendors on product compliance
  • Experience with Abi, RMS, ClearTrack and PIM software programs preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable in the area of safety risk analysis for products that may pose a potential hazard

  • Ability to prioritize workload and  meet multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced, frequently changing environment

  • Must be knowledgeable of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, including labeling requirements
  • Strong Flex PLM and Microsoft Office program experience, including Excel and Word
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in maintaining compliance for Academy products with applicable product safety regulations.
  • Supports research and risk assessments on new product development and provides basic guidance to internal teams on compliance and labeling requirements.
  • Identifies potential safety, regulatory, or quality concerns with products and escalates findings to senior analysts or management for further review.
  • Maintains and updates databases of product incident information; supports analysis of post-market surveillance data to identify trends in safety and quality issues.
  • Assists in product compliance investigations, recalls, and regulatory actions by gathering relevant data and supporting internal teams.
  • Monitors regulatory updates related to product safety and provides summaries to senior analysts and leadership.
  • Reviews instruction manuals for Private Label products for accuracy, focusing on the inclusion of warnings, cautions, and instructions.
  • Assists in reviewing product packaging to ensure necessary warnings are present and submits findings to senior team members for approval.
  • Supports e-commerce compliance efforts by checking that required warnings are included on product listings and reporting discrepancies.
  • Assists in monitoring severe weather or critical events and supports price increase suspensions for applicable jurisdictions.
  • Identifies minor process improvement opportunities and provides recommendations to senior analysts for consideration.
  • Assists in drafting internal procedures in support of Academy’s Product Safety Compliance Policy.
  • Collaborates with vendors to collect necessary documentation for product compliance verification.
  • Conducts basic research on manufacturers and their products to verify compliance with applicable U.S. safety regulations.
  • Maintains spreadsheets tracking applicable products by category, vendor number, PO number, and SKU.
  • Provides administrative support for compliance recall procedures and communication with internal stakeholders.
  • Assists with customs and factory compliance efforts by collecting necessary documentation, such as certificates of compliance and quality questionnaires.
  • Supports coordination between internal departments, including merchandising, quality assurance, and product development, on compliance-related matters.
  • Develops a working knowledge of Academy’s policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Duties may change; the team member may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
