The primary business objective of this PM II role is to establish and guide the strategy and vision for building a Core Data Platform end to end that supports AvidXchange’s broader data modernization efforts. This platform will act as a central hub for data and eventing, capable of receiving, transforming, and delivering data seamlessly to downstream systems to enable robust analytics, integration, and governance capabilities. The role focuses on defining and managing the roadmap while collaborating closely with engineering teams to align technical execution with strategic objectives. It is critical for transitioning AvidXchange to a more scalable and modern data infrastructure, addressing the increasing complexity of data integration and enabling advanced analytics to support spend management, operational processes, and monetization opportunities.

This position will ideally sit in our Charlotte, NC HQ (Hybrid - Tues, Weds, Thurs), but also willing to consider virtual candidates.

What you'll do

  • Own the end-to-end project management strategy for core data platform initiatives, setting long-term objectives, ensuring alignment with data architecture goals, integration requirements, and organizational needs, while leading the establishment of a new data platform. 

  • Lead the full project lifecycle from planning through execution and delivery, managing detailed roadmaps, coordinating complex technical dependencies, and driving efforts to build the platform from the ground up. 

  • Shape the strategic project approach in collaboration with engineering, DevOps, and data teams, creating actionable plans that establish foundational data capabilities and integrations. 

  • Influence and Inspire: Educate and influence cross-functional teams—including data engineering, DevOps, and data science—to incorporate data services into their projects while driving continuous improvement across initiatives. 

  • Drive continuous improvement by tracking key technical metrics for project execution, system performance, and platform stability, using data-driven insights to guide the development of a scalable and resilient data platform. 

  • Evangelize and Engage: Act as a champion for data platform initiatives by engaging with marketing, engineering, support, and other teams across the company, understanding client needs and advocating for data solutions that align with their requirements. 

  • Oversee alignment of project milestones with business objectives, evaluating the impact of data platform initiatives and iterating strategies based on stakeholder feedback and evolving requirements. 

  • Leverage emerging technologies, automation, and best practices to establish core platform capabilities, streamline workflows, and optimize system scalability as the platform evolves. 

  • Monitor and Refine: Develop goal metrics, monitor performance, and adjust plans as necessary to ensure successful project execution. 

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive project roadmap that addresses the challenges of building a new data platform from the ground up, while supporting long-term strategic growth. 

What We're Looking For 
 

  • 3 or more years in technical project management, with a history of leading complex projects and driving the execution of data platform initiatives. 

  • Proven experience in managing projects that involve data platforms, data integration, or infrastructure modernization with organization-wide impact. 

  • Experience designing solutions that include data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or data storage strategies, with a strong understanding of data architecture principles. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical dependencies and collaborate with multiple teams to ensure successful delivery of data platform projects. 

  • Familiarity with data governance, data security, and regulatory requirements as they relate to data management and platform development. 

  • Strong understanding of API integration, data modeling, and system architecture, with experience in managing projects that support scalable and resilient data infrastructure. 

  • Extensive background in data and analytics, with expertise in scalable data solutions and advanced data management practices. 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's degree or PMP certification is preferred. Additional certifications in project management, product management cloud platforms, or data architecture can be advantageous.
