JOB SUMMARY:
This role will provide leadership and direction to the actuator product development engineering team to strategize, develop, launch products related to this product line. The engineering manager will hold the primary design responsibility for all actuation products. The product development engineering manager of actuation will work closely with internal and external customers and suppliers to ensure successful programs and projects. This role is key in the process of developing engineering customer relationships, identifying, understanding and translating customer technical requirements into quantifiable deliverables and supporting the overall growth of the Control Devices Business.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for new product design, from concept to production, of actuation products.
- Responsible for providing direction for the product technical roadmap for the actuator product lines.
- Responsible for all VA/VE and supplier resourcing activities, and pipeline, within the actuator product lines.
- Provide cross functional alignment on all new business pursuits and quoting activities.
- First/Main point of contact for technical support for all actuator discussions.
- Coordinate projects closely with customers, suppliers and peers(including cross functional SMEs) in conjunction with Program Management.
- Demonstrates analytical thinking by proactively identifying current and potential design risks/problems and execute problem solving tools to address them.
- Lead development of new product concepts and participate on new program quotations.
- Work closely with, and provide guidance, coaching, and leadership to a team of product engineers.
- Identify and drive benchmarking analysis of products to support product development and new business pursuits.
- Manages team performance and provides effective coaching/development to team as needed
- Supports organizational change management to align the team with future strategy
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
- Experience required: 5 - 8 years in product development engineering or similar role
- Ability to promote effective analysis for root cause solutions to problems through effective problem-solving methods
- Experience in DFMEA/PFMEA, APQP, PPAP, DFA tools, new product development process and starting/implementing design engineering changes
- Strong analytical skills
- Self-motivated
- Experience in one or more of the following required: mechanical design, gear/geartrain design, bearings technology, spring/compliance/lost motion design, electrical machines such as brushed and brushless DC motors including controls interaction understanding.
- Ability to effectively control and manage changes in the production environment and systems
- Demonstrates effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact
- Acts as a role model for honesty and integrity and demonstrates sound business ethics
- Ability to align customer needs and satisfaction to business strategy and leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions
- Demonstrated capability in the use of effective resource planning techniques
LOCATION AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to travel internationally.
- Travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (~25%).
