Provides visionary leadership to the organization and coordinates the consolidation and/or the development of new and effective demand response programs to meet the reliability challenges of integrating a substantial volume of new loads in the ERCOT system in the coming years. Coordinates demand response program development and/or consolidation within a matrix organization and throughout the ERCOT stakeholder and regulatory processes. Drives process to keep development on track and delivers effective demand response programs for the ERCOT market and system. Expands the company’s capabilities and innovation in demand response. Exerts technical influence across the enterprise to increase productivity and effectiveness.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
- Provides technical expertise and uses working knowledge to support business needs
- Responsible for coordinating demand response efforts across departments, and with ensuring successful completion of market design development and implementation.
- Leads and/or facilitates discussion with stakeholders, regulators, and executives.
- Collaborates with other subject matter experts across organization to develop project timelines and deliverables.
- Drives solutions by including views of a diverse array of stakeholders with different interests and perspectives including market participants and the Independent Market Monitor.
- Effectively communicates with a diverse array of audiences including technical staff on demand response issues as well as senior level audiences including senior executives, Board members, and regulators on challenges and solutions.
- Provides leadership and ensures accountability for successful implementation of demand response programs and initiatives.
- Provides strategic expertise to internal and external stakeholders and awareness of demand response activities.
- Identifies and suggests enhancements and contributes to the development of solutions.
- Leads cross functional teams working on the demand response initiatives in a matrixed structure across the organization.
- Reports and tracks trends and issues related to demand response programs and the potential impacts on ERCOT.
- Develops and manages both formal and informal personal networks and relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, regulators, and academic institutions.
- Builds cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Explores collaboration opportunities with universities and other RTO/ISOs.
- Serves as coach, mentor, and role model within the department and throughout the organization.
- Responsible for setting goals in the matrixed organization working on demand response initiatives.
- Develops a high-performing, highly collaborative culture within the department and broader organization.
- Represents ERCOT on panels, committees, advisory boards and gathers information from industry sources.
- Provides input to regulators on proposals, meetings, and rulemakings.
- Manages and leads the development of new or changes to existing ERCOT protocols, guides, or procedures, which would allow market participation in demand response programs.
- Interfaces with market participants by participating in subcommittees and working groups to provide information on ERCOT systems, practices, and capabilities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Requires minimum 10 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements.
- Effectively communicating with a diverse array of audiences on technical subject matter (required)
- Knowledge of demand response programs (required)
Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOTPREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Management in a matrix organization
- Knowledge of existing ERCOT demand response programs
- Knowledge of ERCOT markets
- Experience with ERCOT stakeholder process
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field (Required)
- Master's Degree: Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field (Preferred)
- or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
WORK LOCATION – Taylor, TX:
- Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at minimum 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by management
- On-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the Manager
- Remote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.
- Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the time

What We Do
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to 27 million Texas customers - representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load. As the independent system operator (ISO) for the region, ERCOT schedules power on an electric grid that connects more than 54,100 miles of transmission lines and 1,250+ generation units, including Private Use Networks. ERCOT also performs financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administers retail switching for 8 million premises in competitive choice areas. ERCOT is a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, governed by a board of directors and subject to oversight by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature.
ERCOT's members include consumers, cooperatives, generators, power marketers, retail electric providers, investor-owned electric utilities (transmission and distribution providers), and municipal-owned electric utilities.
