What you will achieve:
Targeted drug delivery is finding increasing application in the pharmaceutical field, highlighted by the impact that Antibody Drug Conjugates have made in the oncology space. Pfizer Oncology R&D is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work within the ADC Chemistry team to characterize a unique natural delivery pathway and develop potential applications for therapeutic use. This is an exciting postdoctoral opportunity at the chemistry-biology interface which will allow the fellow to work with multiple discipline teams while gaining broader drug development insights across the Pfizer organization. The expectation is that this work will lead to publications in top tier journals, setting the foundation for a career in industry or academia.
How You Will Achieve It
Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Participate in the design and execution of experiments to identify key cellular processes and proteins required for drug delivery.
  • Design, synthesize, and test proof-of-concept molecules that leverage the pathway to deliver molecules with therapeutic potential.
  • Apply working knowledge of synthetic chemistry and basic cell biology to efficiently execute experimental plans.
  • Organize, interpret, and analyze data, and identify areas where key knowledge is lacking.
  • Proactively seek out new information and experimental approaches in the literature and incorporate this into the scientific hypotheses and experimental plans.
  • Effectively communicate data and results at internal and external meetings/conferences.
  • Produce high impact publications in peer reviewed journals.

Qualifications
Must-Have

  • Recent Ph.D. in chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, cell biology, or a related field.
  • Successful record of scientific accomplishments evidenced by scientific publications and/or presentations with at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Willingness to make a minimum 2-year commitment
  • No more than 2 years of post-degree experience.
  • Experience in the design, synthesis and application of chemical probes for the interrogation or modulation of biological systems.
  • Experience with cell biology techniques such as cell culture, plate-based assays, and measurements of DNA/RNA/protein.
  • Familiarity with genetic perturbation methods such as CRISPR or RNAi.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to learn new technical and analytical skills as needed to achieve experimental aims.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills.

Nice-to-Have

  • Background in cancer biology is preferred.
