Position Details

The OSP Engineer III will self-motivate and have the ability to self-direct and lead the design of outside plant projects, with focus on a high concentration on aerial plant design and fiber-based systems, and specifically FTTx. The candidate will have technical experience and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining underground and aerial telecommunications systems, including overhead lines, fiber optics, and related infrastructure. This role requires a strong technical background in telecommunications engineering, as well as the ability to work in diverse environments and collaborate with various stakeholders.

The candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of proven experience with OSP underground and aerial telecommunication leading projects and design, with understanding of supporting equipment, network architecture, and Make-Ready engineering. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects/tasks, is a must. This position is considered remote, with welcomed access to Tilson offices nationwide. This is a national search with a preference for candidates located in the eastern or central time zone.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed designs and plans for aerial telecommunications systems, including fiber optic installations.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site surveys to assess installation locations and environmental considerations.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple assignments simultaneously, ensuring timely completion within budgetary constraints.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field teams during site surveys.
  • Manage and self-start multiple OSP projects of varying complexity for fiber deployment projects.
  • Provide engineering designs with associated cost estimates as part of conceptual design.
  • Perform detailed engineering using 3-GIS, or other GIS platform, while acting as the project manager for end-to-end deployments.
  • Complete field work, and travel to various markets as priorities require.
  • Review aerial plant per design standards and make recommendations to support build.
  • Work with other departments to coordinate make ready management, permitting and fielding.
  • Review as-built plans, test results and provide post construction inspection.
  • Engineer in multiple CAD and GIS platforms as well as Google Earth.
  • Maintain orderly records and project documents.
  • Perform quality control reviews and self-checks on completed designs in terms of completeness, accuracy, and compliance with standards.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of outside plant engineering and construction, with an emphasis on aerial plant and NESC standards.
  • Knowledge of regional governing code.
  • Desktop and field quality control to support final client deliverable.
  • Prepare documentation packages for client review.
  • Understanding of job cost, change order management and work order processing.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, software, and technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of aerial telecommunications technologies, including fiber optic design networks
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., BICSI, NESC, OSHA) are a plus.

Travel Expectations - Up to 50% travel required

Tilson leads with integrity around pay transparency; as part of the compensation plan for this position you can expect a pay range of:

$70,000.00 - $100,000.00
