NPI Buyer (Hybrid role)

Job Description

About the Role:  

Brooks Automation is a global leader in automation solutions for the semiconductor industry. As NPI Buyer, this role is responsible for all aspects of procurement for New Product Design and Introduction including quoting, negotiating cost and lead times, material requirements planning, purchasing, item master maintenance, monitoring movement of material, managing inventory levels, expediting, and project reporting.  

The ideal candidate has extensive experience buying and planning for a variety of materials used in complex product designs in an engineering design environment with work assignments ranging from tactical to complex, requiring motivation, discretion, independent judgment and diverse problem-solving methods. 

Work Location: HYBRID – Johor Bahru. 

  

Key responsibilities:  

  • Create and manage purchase orders and requests for quotes to include technical documents, pricing, delivery and key milestones to ensure on-time receipt of material.

  • Transform MRP demand signals into planned orders to create confirming Purchase Orders using appropriate and approved Inventory planning rules and guidelines.

  • Analyze, adjust and optimize product and component inventory levels to coincide with design project schedules and/or manufacturing demand and lead time changes.

  • Support Engineering in management for design projects, engineering BOMs, engineering change orders (ECO) and supplier-initiated action requests (SIARs). 

  • Work collaboratively with Commodity Management to align sourcing strategies, mitigate risk, and negotiate optimal purchase agreements.

  • Maintain the integrity of MRP parameters (lot/ order size, lead time and safety stock). 

  • Coordinate with Supplier Quality on quality issues to ensure immediate intervention and resolution. 

  • Interacts with suppliers to ensure appropriate support and execution of NPI deliverables.  

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Skills & Competencies:  

  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Related field and a minimum of 5-7 years’ relevant work experience in purchasing, planning, master scheduling, or commodity/product line management.

  • Must have practical purchasing experience with multiple commodities such as Mechanical and Electrical components and assemblies, machined components (plastics and metals), sheet metal, plastic injection molded parts, PCBA’s, cables, motors, and pumps. 

  • Ability to read blueprints/drawings and interpret specifications. 

  • Must be proficient in the use of Oracle ERP/MRP or similar system - ERP/MRP Inventory Planning and Purchasing experience in an OEM manufacturing environment and “hands on” experience utilizing Inventory Planning and Purchasing modules.

  • Experience with planning, coordinating and ensuring efficient and effective inventory replenishment from suppliers by establishing Blanket PO’s and utilizing Kanban release or rapid replenishment mechanisms.

  • Highly organized team player with excellent communication skills; must be able to read, write and speak with clarity in the English language and interface effectively with both internal customers and peer and with external partners. 

  • Requires excellent analytical thinking, keen negotiation and conflict management skills.

  • Related industry Certifications (APICS, CPM, CPIM or equivalent) will be preferred.

  • Customer-focused, self-motivated with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with minimal direction, ability to drive initiatives and programs with unclear initial definitions. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project. 

  • Experience and knowledge of Semi-Conductor Equipment manufacturing is highly desirable.
