ReCon Craft is seeking a Mechanical Designer to utilize modeling, designing, and drafting software tools to complete 3-D product design models and detail designs for manned and unmanned boats.  Technical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, system design, bill of materials, foundation design, cabling and routings, product data management (PDM), 3-D modeling, production detailing, CNC cut plate files, drafting, and fixture design.  Experience with SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCad software is preferred.

Responsibilities: 

  • Exceptional working knowledge of SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCAD
  • Support program, engineering and production personnel with designs that are easy to build, consistent with the company’s design DNA, and customer specifications while ensuring contract requirements are met. 
  • Work regularly with engineering and production personnel to leverage their skills and experiences to optimize designs for efficiency.  Includes spending time to identify manufacturability challenges or how to otherwise improve quality, efficiency, and profitability. 
  • Experience with product design and configuration. 
  • Work with partners and suppliers to integrate their components and designs into our design models. 
  • Ability to take existing designs, make redline changes, and create revised drawings and solid models. 
  • Ability to generate draft designs from rough concepts and based on interactions with boat users, maintainers, and our own fabrication and production teams. 
  • Creation and development of fixture and jig designs, including development of shop fabrication and machining drawings and bill of materials. 
  • Working knowledge of design standards, industry best practices, and related technical design resources to develop viable boat and system designs. 
  • A desire to be part of a high-performing team to design and build boats and other products that are changing and improving the industry. 

  Requirements:  

  • Education/Experience: 
  • 2+ years manufacturing design and production using 3D and 2D CAD programs. 
      • Knowledge of and experience with marine or transportation mechanical systems. 
  • Fabrication production experience including welding, CNC cutting & forming, and other modern manufacturing methods.
  • Expert-level user with SolidWorks necessary to support production designs in a busy fabrication business. 
  • Required Knowledge/Skills: 
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving  
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines 
  • Strong written and oral communication  
  • Must be resourceful, highly organized, extremely dependable, efficient, and detail oriented 
  • Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day to-day activities 
  • Physical Requirements:  
  • Ability to lift 25lbs
  • Ability to work long hours, when required, to meet deadlines or other deliverables 


Other Responsibilities:  

  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the department and contracts 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager
