Salary: CAD $179,534. Eligible for periodic salary increases and performance-based incentive bonuses in accordance with company policy

Roles: 

 

We are looking for an experienced Manager, Software Development, to coach engineers and new hires in compliance domain and architecture. As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will work with extremely hardworking peers in a fun environment. You will work in an agile environment with a focus on problem solving and engineering perfection.  

 

We are the Global Onboarding and Compliance Engineering team and are responsible for building the technology to manage user onboarding experience and meet compliance requirements globally. The Manager, Software Development, will lead the user onboarding product technology stack, which enables eBay new users to on-board on a platform to sell and transact. eBay user onboarding product technology stack is currently in a very critical path for new user success at eBay globally. 

 

The Manager, Software Development, will also lead a team of Software Engineers who build and manage the application stack from both front-end and back-end. This team runs multiple experiments on the platform to continue to improve the conversation rate which adds several millions of dollars to our incremental GMV. The team uses cutting-edge technologies to ship the product in a very scalable way to enable eBay users located in more than 190 countries across the globe. Responsibilities: 

 

  • Managing other engineers; 

  • Leading a talented full-stack team of backend and frontend engineers; 

  • Mentoring and guiding the development of the team members in a tailored and empathetic manner suited for each individual; 

  • Building collaborative and inclusive teams; 

  • Owning team deliverables and shipping high quality, maintainable software; 

  • Building and maintaining a healthy prioritized backlog in alignment with the team goals; 

  • Collaborating with product managers, business units, analytics to brainstorm and build the next generation of our product and scale it; 

  • Building solutions using a strong background in distributed systems and large-scale database systems; 

  • Researching, analyzing, designing, developing and testing the solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology strategies; 

  • Participating in design discussions, code reviews and project-related team meetings; 

  • Working with other engineering specialists, Architecture, Product Management, QA and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions which meet business needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and consistency to development principles and product goals; 

  • Developing technical and domain expertise and applying it to resolve product challenges.  

 

Required Experience: 

 

The language of work is English. 

 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering) plus 12+ years experience (or) a MS in Computer Science and 10+ years of software design experience  

Technical: 

  • 2 or more years of experience as tech lead or scrum master. 

  • Collaborate with Product, Design and Business Policy teams to execute the roadmap. 

  • Experience in building large scale distributed systems with high availability, scalability and resilience 

  • Experience in building Payments and Marketplace Compliance platforms and user experience.  

  • Experienced working in Agile teams 

  • Must have expertise in Java, J2EE, Nodejs & full stack engineering with a deep knowledge of its ecosystems and frameworks.  

  • Proficient in microservices, event driven architecture, REST and GraphQL. 

  • Design & Implemented CI/CD pipelines.  

  • Knowledge of networking, security, and database design 

  • Developed and drove the adoption of technical patterns that significantly improved engineering practices across the organization. 

 

  

Leadership 

  • 8+ years of experience in partnering and effectively monitoring peers and juniors.  

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
