The main focus of the role is to advise the business on legal and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on data protection and privacy and supplier and technology agreements. This role works closely with key business stakeholders in the commercial and tech, security and compliance departments, providing expert advice on various legal affairs. The Legal Counsel will be part of the international Legal & Compliance department and report to the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer who is based in New York.
YOUR CHALLENGE:
- Manage various in-house legal projects and provide expert legal advice on day-to-day operational questions and commercial terms.
- Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of contracts (e.g. technology services, SaaS, ad-tech, software licensing, cloud computing, commercial agreements and T&Cs, DPAs etc.) in support of global operations.
- Provide expert legal advice on data protection and privacy regulations across multiple jurisdictions (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable regulations), handle DPIAs, manage regulatory notifications, etc.
- Develop, roll-out and maintain internal policies and procedures related to data processing and -privacy, and deliver training programs on data protection best practices for employees across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a holistic approach to data protection and the seamless integration of data protection measures into daily operations.
- Communicate with external stakeholders, including relevant regulators, clients and suppliers, on a variety of legal topics and represent the interests of the company in a professional and diligent manner.
- Keep abreast of emerging trends, legal and regulatory changes, and best practices in data privacy and provide strategic advice to the organization to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
- Act as a hands-on, pragmatic, proactive and business-minded team player, keen to foster a collaborative environment that encourages proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement.
TO DO IT, YOU WILL NEED:
- Master of Laws (LLM) from an established European university
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably at least 2 years as an in-house counsel or with a law firm
- In-depth knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable laws) and experience in handling DPIAs, regulatory notifications, data breaches, and overall data compliance governance.
- Strong expertise with managing complex, international supplier and technology contracts.
- Proven track record of simultaneously managing and prioritizing multiple projects with a keen eye for detail and timely delivery.
- Ability, confidence and appetite to work in a fast paced, agile international environment with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- “Team-first” mindset, energetic, challenge-taker, thrives on cross-departmental collaboration.
- Ability to communicate, present, translate and implement complex legal issues and matters in an international business context.
- Excellent command of the English language is required, any other languages would be considered as an asset
- Experience from tech, gaming or the financial industry is an advantage.
