Your mission

Are you an experienced embedded software developer, ready to have a significant impact on the future of heating and cooling systems? As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer at BDR Thermea Group, you play a key role in your team by leading end-to-end software development projects, designing robust solutions for control software, and mentoring your colleagues. Join us in making the energy transition a reality!

What you'll do

  • Lead embedded software development projects: oversee the development process, from initial design to functional testing, fostering a collaborative, productive environment.

  • Act as a technical expert: help the team in adopting best practices and pursuing continuous improvement.

  • Develop software alongside the team: participate in embedded software development and provide hands-on support for embedded software challenges, including debugging and PCB validation.

  • Mentor your team: Act as a mentor for your team, supporting their professional growth.

What you can expect

In this role, you join our Digital & Control Business Unit. This unit is responsible for creating excellent customer journeys for the end users of our heating systems. The R&D team within this unit is responsible for developing HMIs, smart control boards and controller units for the systems developed at BDR Thermea Group. While your team’s work involves some work on microcontrollers, you will also get to sink your teeth into advanced embedded application development.

Reporting to the Development Team Manager, you will coordinate the team’s technical efforts, ensuring objectives are met and aligning with business goals. From backlog refinement to technical problem-solving, you’ll steer quality and performance in our embedded software solutions.

You will join a collaborative engineering culture: we work agile and in a shared codebase with peer reviews. We trust each other's expertise and encourage knowledge sharing.

This role is a hybrid role, based out of Mertzwiller, France, in the larger Strasbourg area. To ensure close collaboration and due to the nature of embedded software development, you are invited to work on-site at the office three days a week. We support your home office set-up, travel costs, and provide flexibility regarding hybrid work.

What you bring

  • Technical Expertise: You bring a wealth of experience in complex, end-to-end embedded software development in C. This is a senior role, preferably you have more than 5 years of experience and feel confident in sharing your knowledge also on architectural topics and at ease with interpreting electronic diagrams.

  • Tools & Technologies: Next to being an expert in C, you are confident with CAN protocols (we use CANOpen), IAR tools for NXP microcontrollers, and proficient in working with CUnit, Lint, and Jira (or equivalents).

  • Leadership and Teamwork Skills: You get energy from working in a closely-knit, cross-functional team, fostering a collaborative environment and mentoring others. Preferably, you have already worked in a lead role, but please don’t hesitate to apply if that is the next step you wish to take in your career!

  • Communication Skills: You can communicate effectively and build relationships in an international matrix organisation, in which the working language is French on a local level and English on a global level.

  • Educational Background: Preferably, you have obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Embedded Systems Engineering, Electrical / Controls Engineering, Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering with courses in embedded development or electrical engineering.

For bonus points:

  • Industry Experience: Ideally, you have gained experience in a relevant domain: if you are familiar with heating and cooling systems and the sensors related to them, even better!
