For our Payment Products area we are looking for a new Kotlin development engineer. We are part of the Payments NL tribe, and responsible for processes like iDeal, Betaalverzoek, payment initiation, transaction reporting and Insights, and much more, for all ING channels.
The engineers in our area are in charge of developing new applications and features, but also continuously improve and maintains code, monitoring, alerting and processes. We also love to try out new things and offer you plenty of opportunities and flexibility to bring your own ideas to life. The main technology, tools and frameworks we use are Kotlin, Spring Boot, REST, Kafka, Oracle DB, Azure DevOps, Maven and Git, all based on Docker containers on OpenShift/Kubernetes, and front-end tech like Web-components (LitHTML) and JavaScript.
The team
Our area sits at the heart of ING between the core banking applications and the customer, a great place to create impact! You will work within the Customer Insights & Connectivity product cluster, for the Open Banking squad. We are a diverse team developing API's to open up ING's reliable products to the outside world via ING developer portal (developer.ing.com).
Roles and responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Kotlin, Spring boot API’s, but also deploy, test and monitor your applications.
- Create scalable, performant and clean code and tools and contribute to our engineering culture.
- Work within a small Agile DevOps team that takes full ownership.
- Depending on the team you might be expected to do standby shifts.

- Fluent communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus.
- 3 + years experience with Java and/or Kotlin
- Bonus points for Kotlin experience, otherwise willing to learn
- Bonus points for front-end development experience
- 3+ years experience with the full DevOps skill set: coding, testing, deploying, monitoring
- You are a quick learner and a motivated engineer who likes to work in a team on complex solutions
- You have a “Can do” mentality that aligns with our culture where you ‘Take it on and make it happen’. You follow our Orange Code, and also help others to be successful
- You continuously want to grow your personal skills as an engineer and as a team-player
- You always look for the smarter option to do things; ‘Automate… Everything!’
- You understand working in a complex IT landscape such as ING, in which a responsible attitude towards IT Risk and compliance is also essential
