Leidos is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to join our team in developing unmanned and autonomous ships for the US Government. The candidate will help design, integrate, model, and test software systems as part of a Scrum team in Arlington, VA. Joining other systems engineers, the candidate will develop solutions to technical problems with a systematic approach. Our team of over thirty software and system engineers supports a variety of projects, making existing ships operate autonomously as well as working to support new ships through development within design, build, and test phases. Our software handles ship automation, autonomous navigation, sensor processing, and communications. The Jr. systems engineer will help in development of SOW, requirements writing, CAMEO modeling, and systematic software design.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create high level system requirements along with necessary subsystem and component requirements
- Map any requirements from CAMEO to verification method
- Inform design of software systems through CAMEO development
- Aid in technical writing for government documentation and ensure documentation is up to date.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle.
- Perform peer reviews of software and system design.
- Collaborate with the continuous process improvement to help the team improve.
- Explain technical solutions, practices, and procedures to others within the team.
- Some travel (up to 25%)
Basic Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in system engineering or STEM field plus 2+ years of system design, or <2 with a master’s degree, and at least 1+ using CAMEO or SysML tools
- Significant experience working in a team environment, including experience providing guidance and coaching to other developers
- Experience designing complex systems, taking into account performance and user requirements
- Exposure to one or more of the following: high availability, sensor fusion, target tracking, path planning, communications systems, or military systems integration
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite
- Familiarity with SysML tools, especially CAMEO
- Familiarity with government requirements process and MBSE
- Demonstrable problem-solving skills
- Active Secret Security Clearance preferred

Pay Range:Pay Range $67,600.00 - $122,200.00
