We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Field Engineer to join our Civil and Structural Engineering Department. The successful candidate will report to the Civil and Structural Engineering Department Manager and the Structural Lead on the project to which he or she is assigned.

The person in this position will work closely with all disciplines (engineering, HSE, procurement, quality, etc) and project management to manage design responsibilities and to resolve design related issues associated with the project.

This role will be based in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Your role within the team:

  • Develop designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, specifications, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications.
  • Review the concrete rebar bending schedule and steel connection design and shop drawings.
  • Prepare the engineering manhour estimate and schedule.
  • Provide technical assistance to the construction to ensure best resolution for all parties for any technical issues arising on the site.
  • Attend in daily and weekly meetings with client and contractors. Interact with clients, provide technical support to the team, and identify project needs and requirements.
  • On-site support/inspection and problem resolution for the concrete and steel structure/foundation issues and provide provide technical assistance to the civil/structural superintendents and craft to ensure best resolution for all parties for any technical issues arising in the field
  • Execute field take-offs from “Issued for Construction” drawings, provide input to the quantity tracking applications, and report weekly installed quantities to project controls.

The ideal candidate:
 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in civil/structural engineering. Preferable project experience in heavy industrial sectors such as Mining & Metallurgy, Oil & Gas, Acid Plants, Fertilizer Plants, or similar industries.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer Newfoundland or eligible for P.Eng status in any Canadian province.
  • Proficient in the design and analysis of structural concrete and structural steel. Familiarity with North American design standards and codes, including but not limited to: CSA, CISC, NBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
