Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic relationship development in Malaysia

  • Develop and implement GR strategy, stakeholder plan to support Prudential (PAMB, PBTB, EIB, PSA) in building long-term strategic relationships with key government and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Manage and ensure up to date stakeholder mapping across government, regulatory bodies, and relevant functional areas (e.g., Digital, Health, Sustainability, investments) pertinent to Prudential’s operations in Malaysia.
  • Represent Prudential on external engagements with government organizations, industry bodies and regulators to build a sphere of influence for effective advocacy.

Policy and regulatory developments and advocacy

  • Provide clear, concise, and commercially sound advice to the Exco and Group GR on trends, government policies, regulatory opportunities and risks impacting Prudential’s operations in Malaysia.
  • Develop comprehensive engagement, advocacy and lobbying plans in partnership with Group GR and Malaysia Exco to support strategic projects.  
  • Lead the development of briefing documents related to meetings with Malaysian stakeholders, GR related position papers and other relevant content for distribution and publication (e.g., responses to public consultations).
  • Collaborate with Group GR and functional leads in PAMB/PBTB/EIB/PSA to identify relevant thought leadership opportunities for our Malaysia business and lead the execution and dissemination of papers.

Internal management and reputation

  • Elevate and profile GR capabilities and achievements among local leadership and functional stakeholders.
  • Build and strengthen the business's positive reputation, with excellent tactical and strategic execution, through sensitive and diplomatic communications, outreach and engagement.
  • Coordinate group-wide outreach and acts as day-to-day point person for Government Relations and public policy insight for the business.
  • Manage the GR function and team in Malaysia, ensuring team members’ skills and capabilities are developed and followed-up.

Job Specification:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in financial services, Government, Consulting or other relevant fields, with track record of delivering commercial outcomes through regulatory/policy initiatives
  • Exposure to financial services regulators and relevant government agencies.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage diverse relationships, with an extensive network of contacts in Government ministries, agencies, BNM, think-tanks.
  • Fluency in English (Mandatory) and Bahasa Malaysia (advantage): strong written and verbal communication skills and experience, capable of creating and delivering clear, factual, and relevant position papers and talking points.
  • A fast learner with the willingness to immerse themselves in a wide range of subjects, including financial markets (both conventional and Islamic Finance), regulation, sustainability, technology, economics, politics, and sector specific activity.
  • A motivated self-starter, with creative and strategic thinking as well as excellent judgement, integrity, professionalism and positivity.
  • Undergraduate degree in international business, economics, or a relevant field is mandatory; an advanced degree in public policy, law, international relations is desirable.
