Assist in the development, operation and maintenance of the Company’s Geographic Information System (GIS). Utilize GIS software to convert existing hard copy maps and construction plans to GIS. Produce digital and hard copy maps based on user requests. Perform data entry and other routine GIS maintenance tasks as required.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Maintain the existing GIS by updating Company assets as directed and using digital and hard copy maps and engineering drawings. Must be able to understand and interpret maps and engineering drawings.
- Scan engineering plans and maps for input to AIMS. Perform other AIMS data input tasks, as required.
- Create new GIS features for acquired water and wastewater systems by converting hard copy and digital maps and construction drawings to GIS format.
- Utilize internal and external GIS data sources to support design of water main replacement projects and other capital facilities.
- Develop miscellaneous digital and hard copy maps and exhibits upon request for presentations and meetings.
- Participate in field investigations and surveys, as required. Operate field PC’s and hand-held data collectors for use in plan and map development.
- Support Engineering department operations by assisting with maintenance of printers and plotters.
- Monitor and respond to e-mail inquiries to the GIS e-mail inbox.
Special education or registration qualifications:
- High School graduate with additional training in GIS software.
- Must be proficient in Esri GIS software products including ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or later.
- At least two (2) years experience with GIS applications including hands-on experience with digital mapping, digitization, scanning, data entry and data conversion issues.
- Must be proficient with Excel, and AutoCAD and database skills are a plus.
