About the role:
As engineering leaders at Upside, we strive to gather the right information from those around us and take the right calculated risks. In doing so, we hope to help teams quickly make key decisions that will ship high quality software with the most delightful experience possible to our users.
We’re looking for a leader that can chase down the “why” and ensure their teams and those around them understand this well enough to make their own decisions. We want to bring another leader into our group who both leans into ways to improve the system and drives value for the business through the system. As a startup, we encounter change often, and always talk about it openly to help ideas form and strengthen.

Engineering Culture:
We want our engineering leaders to have the time to coach and enable growth for their engineers as well as the space to make thoughtful and impactful technical decisions. We ask our managers to focus on a team of around 8 direct reports, while our more senior managers may operate across two teams. The staffing for these reports is always split - we see incredible value from a mix of full-time and contract staff.
Technology Stack:
We don’t require it for our leaders, but love those that have experience in or are interested in learning:
Python, Java, Kotlin Multi-Platform, Compose Multi-Platform, AWS (including API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, Cloudwatch, EventBridge), Github Actions, and Snowflake.
Location:
This hybrid role is required to work at our Austin, Burlington (VT), Chicago, DC, or NYC office for two days/week.
Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $180K-$220K + equity + benefits. The final starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
