The primary purpose of this role is accountability for overseeing overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of enterprise-wide highly complex end to end associate and/or customer journeys across multiple technology portfolios to achieve expected strategic outcomes for the company in an agile, product environment, while maintaining healthy technology business management operations for one or more S/VP functional areas. This includes partnering with leaders across the enterprise to develop cross-functional plans and alignment to meet strategic priorities and deadlines and directing teams that manage workflow and product delivery across multiple technology portfolio teams. This includes strong partnerships with and accountability to senior leaders, enterprise center of excellence organizations, shared services organizations, external partners, and multiple business owners for journeys with executive sponsorship. This role will ensure resource capacity across functional area(s) to accomplish strategic and functional goals, partnering internally and externally to drive timely and effective decisions, identifying/removing escalated impediments, and mitigating portfolio level risks. This role will leverage Lean-Agile practices, tools, and mindsets to lead the team and identify, influence, and contribute to process improvements across technology to promote simplified consistent ways of working. To be successful, the individual in this role must leverage a background working directly with or in the technology function and applying expertise in Product operating models, leveraging agile ways of working, and scaling agile frameworks within technology related portfolio, program and/or product management. This role operates as an extension of leadership to ensure strategic imperatives are carried throughout and technology portfolios are run as a business. This includes providing operational governance and expertise, partnering closely with technology leadership and Shared Services partners (i.e., HR, Finance, Vendor Management, Enterprise Strategic Sourcing, Technology Business Management, Internal Audit, Communications, etc.) to conduct S/VP level operational reviews, and preparing executive communications with a focus on transparency.
What You Will Do

  • Directs the work within one or more VP product portfolios with portfolio and program stakeholders and personnel, translating general objectives into tactical plans, governing VP portfolio financials and providing input and justification for costs and budget impact.
  • Oversees the management and mitigation of risk across VP product portfolio by analyzing and identifying trigger events, establishing contingency plans, anticipating and managing dependencies affected by ongoing changes across the enterprise goals, and recommending ways to mitigate future risks and influence executive leadership to take action on these recommendations.
  • Monitors overall VP portfolio performance against desired outcomes and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Builds and maintains executive sponsorship and support of assigned VP portfolios by working closely with sponsors and business owners to deliver expected outcomes on the company's strategic and functional goals.
  • Drives VP portfolio execution by ensuring the utilization of Lean-Agile methodologies and successful ongoing health and quality assessments, ensuring key metrics and outcomes are tracked and reported as appropriate into corporate governance processes.
  • Allocates portfolio/program management resources within their organization, managing work demand of VP portfolio(s) and ensuring their teams understand the organizational goals and objectives to deliver expected outcomes for the company.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key cross-functional partners; provides coaching and guidance to team members in support of these key relationships.
  • Manages conflict and trade-offs between stakeholders in a positive manner that drives continued engagement.
  • Leverages global workforce to deliver expected outcomes.
  • Ensures approved Objectives and Key Results/Busness cases exist for executive sponsored initiatives within the VP portfolio area.
  • Provides insight, guidance, and recommendations to help the team resolve escalated issues that arise within the VP portfolio.
  • Leads the development, roll out and continuous improvement of portfolio processes, procedures, and best practices in an agile, product environment.
  • Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change.
  • Role provides financial acumen expertise and consultative support/governance of portfolio/product financial management within the VP portfolio area(s), partnering with Finance and executive leadership to make key decisions and contribute to short and long-term financial goals and business outcomes.
  • Advises on budget and manages expenses associated with their respective team.
  • Responsible for the coordination and requirements from Enterprise areas such as Internal Audit, Process, Change, Finance, and Communications.
  • Serves as a subject-matter-expert for technology program management and aware of ongoing changes and innovations in the technology industry, ensuring effective training and development of team members; monitors technology trends, and anticipates their impact on the technology organization.
  • Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to effectively translate the unique needs and requirements of the technology organization into portfolio level objectives, outcomes, and delivery activities.
  • Collaborates with the broader technology community to understand dependencies and proactively anticipate needs and challenges that are unique to the technology organization in an agile, product environment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, MIS or related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field)
  • 10 years of experience in IT or technology focused business area
  • 8 years of experience leading technology portfolio/program/product teams (requiring integration of cross-functional technology solutions) with direct report responsibility, including experience providing direction, thought leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members
  • 3 years of experience leading technology project/program with direct report responsibility
  • 2 years of experience leading and governing financial budgets in the technology space of $20M-$70M
  • Background in product, business analysis, software engineering, architecture, or related technical area


Preferred Skills/Education

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, MIS or related field
  • 5 years of global technology workforce experience
  • 2 years of corporate retail experience
  • 2 years of experience using formal business process improvement methodologies
  • PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-CACP), Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) , Disciplined Agile Value Stream Consultant (DAVSC), or other portfolio management certification (eg SAFe LPM, ICP-LPM, CSM, RTE, PMP, etc)
