POSITION SUMMARY
The Director - Operational Controls is to assess the policies and procedures within the channel, create a second line of defense and identify risks in the mortgage operations. Collaborate with internal operations and external vendor teams to create robust self- test functions and seek solutions for the Company to minimize risk while balancing the customer service needs of clients. Assess and build team skills, plan, and analyze strategies for successful team development.
DESCRIPTION
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create a working environment that establishes a climate of high-performance expectations and continuous improvement. Engage associates and vendor FTO by building relationships, providing performance feedback, coaching, and developing their skills and abilities.
- Develop robust self-test process to review, analyze, and monitor Correspondent Lending Channel for adherence to Federal and State Compliance Regulations.
- Manage a team of internal mortgage professionals and vendor resources charged with efficiently implementing the various self-test functions.
- Produce comprehensive and precise management reporting designed to monitor lending channel user performance, including identification of finding trends and training opportunities for internal FTE and external FTO who operate outside of the acceptable benchmark. Utilize this data to create the vendor oversight report cards.
- Collaborate in the risk reduction efforts of Mortgage Lending Channel Leaders to create action plans including identification of procedural or system enhancements a response to the self-test audits and third line of defense reviews.
- Successfully review and resolve all QC findings and make recommendations to reduce overall defect ratios.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- College Degree: Bachelors or Master’s degree
- 8+ years of applicable experience
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
- Knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
- Thorough knowledge of both Federal and State mortgage compliance regulations as it pertains to Correspondent Lending.
- Knowledge of product overlays and guidelines.
- Knowledge of mortgage banking including pricing, funding, operations, underwriting, products, compliance (TRID) and processing is required.
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Access.
- Candidate must possess and demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Candidate must allocate one’s own time efficiently and must handle multiple demands, competing priorities in fast paced environment. Must create an atmosphere in which timely and high-quality information is shared with team members.
- Effective verbal and written communications, including active listening, and presenting findings and recommendations.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, staff, and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment.
