Do you want to play a leadership role in driving strategic communications in support of Sun Life’s global and Corporate Communications business priorities? Are you an experienced corporate communicator with strengths in annual strategic planning and operations, a passion for exploring digital-forward tools that enhance the way an organization communicates, and the ability to promote Sun Life as a digital leader that is driving client impact.? We’re looking for a seasoned corporate communications professional who is proactive, positive and insights-driven. Someone proven in their ability to navigate multinational organizations to create and deliver strategic communications, manage the team’s operations activities including its budget and vendors, and has experience with enhancing communications through digital-led tools and technology. This role reports to the AVP, Corporate Communications.
What will you do?
Digital Business and Technology Solutions Team (DBTS)
- Support Sun Life’s focus on being a digital leader, specifically working collaboratively to support Sun Life’s Digital Business and Technology Solutions team.
- Collaborate with the team to execute against strategic internal and external plans to help support the priorities of Sun Life’s Digital Business and Technology Services team globally, with a focus on advancing Sun Life’s enterprise digital storytelling.
- Write and create engaging communications with a passion for telling compelling stories that resonate with audiences
- Counsel senior leaders on communications best practices, strategies, issues and change priorities
- Drive proactive and compelling media relations and social media, and manage reputational issues
- Collaborate with communications teams across the enterprise to ensure alignment and prioritization with the employee experience top of mind
- Fuel employee engagement by delivering strategic and visual internal communications tied to Sun Life’s business priorities
- Serves as a change agent for delivering new and interactive ways to communicate to employees globally
- Solve day-to-day issues based on expertise and collaboration with others to find practical solutions
- Proactive measurement of employee and external communications, and media coverage.
Corporate Communications operations, strategy & planning
- Contribute to the quarterly strategic planning process for the Corporate Communications team, ensuring alignment and coordination across Global Marketing, the Business Group marketing & communication teams and corporate functions.
- Leverage communications insights, competitive intelligence, and performance metrics to optimize the communications strategy and measure the effectiveness of programs.
- Participate in a quarterly review and analysis for Corporate Communications, ensuring alignment and coordination with key partners and reporting on key performance metrics and communications initiatives.
- Develop reports detailing progress and performance analysis of Corporate Communications initiatives and activities, including progress against planned and new programs.
- Assess and make recommendations to enhance our internal and external communications channels, vehicles and strategies.
- Research and recommend tools and best practices to help advance the Corporate Communications function.
- Support vendor-related business cases across the team capability in a way that enables effective marketing for the team; contribute and support RFPs for key vendors and contract renewals; liaising with Strategic Sourcing.
- Identify opportunities to streamline business processes and systems used by the Corporate Communications team.
- Support execution of Communications learning opportunities, to help advance the Communications function.
What do you need to succeed?
- Experienced Communications leader with internal communications, issues management, and media relations expertise.
- Strengths in annual strategic planning and operations, a passion for exploring digital-forward tools.
- Strong story telling skills and an eye for graphic design to support the delivery of impactful and visual communications campaigns.
- Self-starter with a proactive ability to initiate integrated and global communications plans, to own execution and measure results across multiple channels.
- Strong issues management skills to quickly analyze issues, understand business impacts and deliver communications to mitigate issues.
- Ability to advise and counsel senior executives and adapt to meet their business needs.
- A proven strategic ability to collaborate with others to meet tight deadlines and deliver measurable results based on communications plans.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation and project management skills.
Assets:
- 10+ years of experience in communications, media relations
- Bilingual (English, French)
- Social media expertise
- Understanding of the financial, health and insurance business landscape
- Graphic design experience
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
