Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies but can also offer insight into future IT tools that could provide us with a competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies.
The Data Technical Specialist plays a key role within our Data Engineering & Integration Platforms team, reporting into the Data Systems Solution Lead.
The Data Technical Specialist will be primarily responsible for managing the configuration and customization of our data governance and management platforms, particularly Collibra and the interim BOIS-based solutions. They will configure and customize the platform to meet requirements, integrate systems with other data management tools and systems. They will also lead on maintenance and upgrades to ensure a reliable service and the ability to meet future demand. There is expected to be on going enhancements to existing use cases, by revisiting data sources and systems we have already connected to and planning changes. This is to ensure that the business and users of the tool have the support to realise the full potential of the benefits Collibra can bring for them through data governance, cataloguing and quality improvement of Johnson Matthey’s data. The role will also be expected to work closely with the Data Governance team to understand standards, processes, business use cases and translating these into technical requirements and implementation plans.
Principal accountabilities
Principle accountabilities for the Data Technical Specialist role include but is not limited to the following:
Technical capability
Configuration and customization: Configure and customize the required platforms (inc. Collibra), to meet business use cases, including setting up workflows, roles and permissions and helping JM to exploit the full value of the platform.
Integrate Collibra with other data management tools and systems, working collaboratively with broader teams, using Collibra Connect.
Knowledge of API capabilities to develop custom integrations and utilise out of the box functionality.
Understanding of metadata management to create and maintain data catalogues.
Maintain a plan, to ensure that the platform is maintained regularly, and a secure, high-performance service is in place.
Deploy data quality metrics and dashboards.
Stakeholder engagement
Ability to work closely with the data governance team, broader data & integration systems teams and business stakeholders.
Support technical training and walkthroughs (including relevant documentation) of how to connect to Collibra and to support maximising it’s potential.
Scope
Work with partners and vendors to implement and build out the platform
Work closely with the business users and IT technical teams to ensure successful implementations.
Provide technical documentation to build out a comprehensive knowledge base and ensure knowledge retained in JM.
Work with third parties supporting implementations (if/ when required)
Project work as required, to integrate requirements through broader projects and system implementations.
Special factors
Strong technical background and written/ oral communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain the systems usage and impact
Experience working with the engineering team in the sustainable technologies sector
Stay up to date on emerging trends and related technologies to evolve the strategy
Good understanding of the IT market and future trends, especially related to sustainable technology organisations or other organisations with a similar product focus
Analytical-conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills
Team player able to deal with ambiguity and overlapping priorities
JMIT consists of geographically dispersed teams and, therefore, all roles include working with remote and cross-cultural teams
The role is likely to be in demand from other disciplines outside the ERP and Finance systems scope, hence resource management will be critical
