We are seeking a skilled Data Science & Analytics Manager to join our team who will have the opportunity to champion our Digital Finance-Disruptive Technology Team for Global Finance Services Division. The incumbent will be expected to report to the Global Finance Data Science & Analytics Manager and bears primary responsibility for solving the business problem presented through applied analytics.
The preference for this role is to be based out of Whitefield Office, Bangalore, India
What you will do

  • He or she demonstrates very good communication skills, being able to explain conclusions to customers with limited knowledge and experience with quantitative analytical methods. They should exhibit strong communications, a penchant for innovation, strong initiative, people development, and interpersonal skills. Will act as key point of contact between India based team and US based team, need to be able to support US based business partners through Noon CST.
  • Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge in the application statistical methods and/or digital methods to solve business problems
  • Oversees performance of individual team members and team as a whole. Identifies and addresses staff training and development needs. Coach, mentor, and lead other Data Scientists in the creation, validation, and application of statistical models, as well as in implementing digital solutions
  • Participate on 3-5 projects concurrently
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.; its products and services; its internal systems, processes, and procedures; and its relevant external influences (competitors, laws and regulations, market conditions, etc.) to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative to research and apply new methods to exceed customer expectations.
  • Have a strong focus on continual learning in the Analytics field
  • Significant challenges of this position are working with people; enhancing the team's creativity; maintaining knowledge of approaches used in similar projects; and pushing the technical bounds of experimentation while meeting customer commitments.
  • The Data Science & Analytics Manager acts as overall technical lead for the team in establishing a sound analytic approach for solving the problem at hand.
  • The incumbent will develop good networks within the technical community to enable them to collaborate on technical solutions, obtain resources and cooperation needed, and remove roadblocks so that they can ensure the success of their team.


Basic Requirements:

  • An accredited 4-year degree, preferably in accounting, finance, statistics, economics, mathematics, or a similar field with quantitative coursework and 4+ years of experience OR Master's degree in an associated field and 3+ years of experience
  • Must be comfortable working in MS Office, and industry standard statistics and data visualization packages.


Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Strong history demonstrating leadership, initiative, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Several years' experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Julia, Python, R. and familiarity with basic database design and intermediate-level SQL skills.
  • An understanding of the key differences between a proof-of-concept project and a production-level project.
  • Experience with various types of data science problems such as anomaly detection, prediction, clustering, and semi-supervised learning and relevant data structures (e.g., hierarchical, multi-instance, and multi-output data formats).
  • Experience with writing fast and memory-efficient code as well as with various types of parallel processing: threading, multi-core/forking, multiple session, and cluster computing.
  • The ability to explain their findings in both practical terms and using machine learning explanation methods.

Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort
  • Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.
  • Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.
  • Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies.
  • Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems.


Requirements Analysis:
Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.
  • Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.
  • Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.
  • Trains others on requirements walkthroughs and quality reviews.
  • Utilizes automated diagramming tools to ensure traceability of requirements.
