JOB PURPOSE
Unilever operates a regional business model for the CARICAM region covering 10 countries in the Caribbean and Central Americas. This is a corporate affairs focused role, business partnering the CARICAM General Manager and helping the regional adn brand teams to secure our local reputation and licence to operate, to ensure business continuity and to mitigate business risk. This will include managing external partnerships, media relations and stakeholder relations.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
- Securing our License to Operate: Building both long term strategic and tactical relationships, establishing local media profile, managing key external relations with Government, industry, NGOs and Trade Associations, and working with Legal and Regulatory Affairs to secure operating permits.
- Protecting our Reputation: Strategically managing stakeholder relations and our external profile to ensure it supports delivery of our market strategy and protects us from negative attention
- Issues Management: Media and crisis communications, disaster response, liaising with global brands and issues teams and social media responses, including establishing processes to manage social first marketing risk.
- Major Transformation: Supporting the strategic design of major transformation programmes, identifying corporate affairs and communications support needs and leading or contracting in resource as necessary.
- Sustainability and Partnerships: Leading and advising on Government and NGO partnerships, leading or advising local sustainability programmes such as plastics and supporting any ULE involvement in sustainability events hosted in CARICAM.
- Compliance: Ensuring CARICAM operates in line with Unilever policy and standards, that corporate communications are aligned to Unilever global positions, quality control of mandatory reporting such as listed entities and EU ESRS assurance.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Experiences & Qualifications
- Experience in managing external relations, reputational issues and corporate affairs across a portfolio of countries and operations.
- Good understanding of business processes and drivers, government relations and working with public authorities.
- Good strategic judgement to identify and prioritise key risks and opportunities and set direction in uncertain situations.
- Strong networking and institutional awareness externally and internally, calm under pressure with good relationship and teamworking skills, able to work at all levels of the organisation.
- Competent strategic planning and budgeting skills including defining work scope for, outsourcing and managing contractors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish with media facing experience and able to work competently in English and concisely summarise issues and options.
Key Internal Stakeholders
The CARICAM General Manager in El Salvador and One Unilever Markets Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability in the UK, close working relationships with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain and Human Resources but interfacing across all teams and markets in the CARICAM region as necessary.
Line Management
Line manager of one Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Analyst and others as assigned.
