Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Financial Controller to join our team in Gaborone, Botswana. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the financial integrity and success of our organization by overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance processes.
- Assist in preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
- Collaborate with the Financial Controller to develop and implement budgets and forecasts
- Ensure compliance with company policies, local tax regulations, and statutory requirements
- Oversee internal and external audits, addressing any findings and implementing corrective actions
- Monitor daily revenue performance and ensure proper revenue recognition
- Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, including credit risk assessments and debt collection
- Review and approve bank transactions and reconciliations
- Participate in the supplier selection process and approve procurement schedules
- Oversee financial systems and ensure data security and reporting automation
- Monitor inventory control procedures and asset management
- Review and approve capital expenditure budgets and oversee contract negotiations
- Assist in payroll processing and conduct random payroll audits
- Provide financial leadership and guidance to finance teams across the organization
- Conduct regular finance training sessions to ensure compliance with corporate policies
- Attend executive committee meetings, providing financial insights and recommendations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience in finance, preferably in a Big4 audit firm or as a financial analyst
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
- Experience with general ledger and hotel-related computer operating systems
- In-depth knowledge of financial reporting and compliance standards
- Understanding of hotel industry financial operations (desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Familiarity with internal control procedures and risk management
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
