Job Description
The Operational Controls & Systems team primary focus is ensuring CPPIB’s accounting book of record is accurate by performing position and cash reconciliations against our Custodian, Prime Brokers and various banking partners. The team is also a product owner of a centralized reconciliation tool named Duco. The team builds and maintains various reconciliations for other functional groups across Operations.
As an Analyst, Operational Controls & Systems you will support the Investment teams with start of day and end of day reconciliations, asset servicing, investment accounting, reporting and valuations for either public or private assets. You will also assist with basic day-to-day evaluation, accounting, and monitoring of relevant investment portfolios covering all security types and asset classes.
Role Accountabilities:
- Review and oversight over daily cash and position reconciliation processes, including:
- Accounting book of record to Custodian Reconciliation
- Accounting book of record to banking partner reconciliation
- Reconciliation utility maintenance
- Generation and analysis of daily firm wide account balances.
- Providing reporting of cash and position exceptions across the organization, including monthly metrics, Month End Exception reporting and daily exception signoff.
- Develop and implement new reconciliation processes for stakeholders across various operational areas, while providing support for business analysis.
- Cross-train with teammates on related roles within the team to provide flexibility in coverage of operational activities.
- Assist in developing and maintaining policies and procedures.
- Continually strive for operational excellence; seek ways to streamline processes and create operational efficiencies. Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with internal investment staff and external asset managers to ensure issues are discussed and resolved, financial controls and reporting requirements are met.
- Other ad-hoc reporting, analytics and projects
- Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues in Operations, Technology, and the Investment Departments.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field.
- 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Professional designations such as a CBV, CFA, CPA are considered an asset.
- Experience with Duco is considered an asset.
- Basic understanding of different programming language is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, financial and management accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role.
- Strong Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems.
